Background
We introduced seven‐day working and increased support for inpatients from the diabetes specialist nursing (DSN) Team in 2017.

Previous surveys using hand‐delivered or postal questionnaires had resulted in low response rates. This year we used an online survey via SurveyMonkey® to measure inpatient diabetes related staff satisfaction.

Aim
To see whether using an online survey increased response rate and enabled us to reach a wider audience and to assess the staff satisfaction levels with the enhanced diabetes inpatient service.

Methods
A multiple‐choice, easy to read online questionnaire was developed. A list of all doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants (HCAs) and midwives working within the Trust was obtained and they were invited via email to take part.

Results
The survey was sent to 1,931 staff members and 277 responded (14.6% Medical, 47.8% Nursing, 27.1% HCA, 7.6% Midwifery) and 1,442 didn't open the email. Majority of respondents worked on medical and surgical wards. Over 99% of staff felt supported by the DSN team and 95.9% felt that the team responded in a timely fashion. Over 93% of respondents felt confident in caring for patients with diabetes, with 95.6% feeling that patients received good diabetes care in their ward/clinical area.

Conclusions
Online platforms are a more effective way of conducting staff surveys.
