A quick reminder for all our Doctors using UpToDate!

Published Date: 18th October 2024

UpToDate is approved as a learning resource by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom to fulfil CPD requirements*.

While you are preparing your personal development plans for appraisal or revalidation, or creating teaching plans for your team, you can rely on UpToDate to help show that you are keeping your knowledge and skills current as well as learning about the latest, evidence-based developments in your specialty. UpToDate automatically tracks usage and allows you to print an activity log of the topics you’ve researched which can be used as documentation to fulfil practice requirements and the external credit component.

Credits earned using UpToDate are accepted by the following Federation member colleges:

  • The Royal College of Physicians
  • The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh
  • The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

To record your CPD, you will need to create an UpToDate account. You can do this by opening UpToDate on a Trust PC or laptop, using the icon on the desktop  and then clicking on the register button on the top right of the screen. Then make sure you log in to your account using the log in button any time you use UpToDate. If you are not logged in to your personal account, UpToDate won’t be able to record your CPD.

Please ensure Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is selected in your CME Credit Type Setting in UpToDate. Review how to change your CPD Setting here.

Redeeming CPD credits is easy! Simply visit the Redeem CPD dashboard (while logged in to your UpToDate account) and select the credits you wish to redeem. After completing the application to practice and CPD program evaluation, your certificate and activity log will be ready to download and print. Review how to redeem CPD here.
